The French are Prescriptivists
Prescriptivism: as opposed to descriptivism, where you believe language should follow a set of rules, rather than allowing free, "incorrect" usage.
The French are huge prescriptivists. This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone who's attempted to speak French with a Parisian (cue Parisian jokes). But I have been thinking, a friend recently mentionned how French people have stricter grammer or something, where I chime in with "nah they're just huge prescriptivists". As opposed to descriptivism, which the anglosphere can't afford to be anything but.
I mean just have a look at their famous "Academie Française" and their constant "réformes". (ok I know the latter isn't a huge indicator but still). Funnier still is seeing a post online where a Parisian tries to correct a Quebecquoi for their grammar/pronunciation. It's like a Brit correcting an American for how they pronounce things, but worse!
